Sure the Yankees can take the lead. We are down by 4 and we still have games against the Red Sox. If we take those games we take the division.

Please don't listen to the Sox fans who claim they have superior pitching. Yes pitching helps but don't you need offense to score you runs at the same time. Our pitching (especially the bullpen) has improved since May with the additions of Edwar Ramirez and Joba Chamberlain and subtractions of Mike Myers, Scott Proctor and Brian Bruney. Not to mention Phil Hughes is back and will only improve with continued experience.

Edit: Superior pitching doesn't give you everything. Refer back to the Tigers vs. Cardinals world series. Tigers were believed to have the superior pitching staff and what exactly did that give them. A World Series loss!

No...they may take the Wild Card but in two weeks I see the Yankees being around 8 back in the division...now that the Indians and Tigers are sucking I see the Mariners winning the Wild Card. When September comes around pitching becomes more important and the Yankees don't have the pitching (they are all offense) to take the division. Take a year off from the playoffs Yankee fans...you will be ok...it might be frightening at first...maybe a little scary but you all will be ok. Let someone into the playoffs...it might be fun to not have the Yankees in the playoffs for once...you might appreciate it better the next time they get in.

With what pitching? Hitting only gets you so far, do you seem to forget, that the Red Sox were always the team with the better bats, but no pitching, now it is the other way around, and you seem to think the outcome will be different. In the 70-80's the Sox were always the offensive team to beat, but they weren't able to catch the Yankees, a team with good bats, but better pitching, now, the Sox are the team with superior pitching, and good hitters, while the Yankees have enough bats to sink a battleship. The yankees will get close, just like the Red Sox did, but they will not be able to go anywhere further than the Red Sox do in the playoffs.

i think the yankees will win the division because they are only four back and they play the sox six more times and they yankees have all the momentum on their side. If they win four of the remaining six against the sox then they only need to play 2 games better than the sox in the rest of the games. Also the yankees pitching looks much better right know as they dominated the secong best offensive team in the majors (tigers) holding them to six runs in the final three games of the series.

don't know, but the series with the Anaheim Angels that starts today will be interesting.

Update 8/21: Angels beat the Yankers in 10 innings, 7-6, to help the Pink Sox.

Update 8/22: yeah, how 'bout those yankers? They lost 18-9 last night, with Garrett banging out 10 rbi's. LOL!

AbsoFrigginlutely. They Yankees are on a tear. The most nervous team in baseball is the Boston Red Sox.

Oh stop. You're being just like all those Red Sux fans. I'll let the Yankees division championship speak for itself this year.

They will take the division. Look what they did in July and August with awful relief pitching. Now that their relief pitching improved, i wonder what they will do for the rest of August and September.
