If you want things built well, quality cost money; therefore, taxes must paid. Otherwise, bridges fall apart, we have no public transportation, etc. Taxes are no fun, and I hate getting them taken out of my paycheck, but how else will day to day maintenance items be fixed? The GOP can't really practice the old "no new taxes" approach anymore. It's unrealistic, except in dreamland.

Because the last eight years have proven that a balanced budget is not an issue that the voters care about. This is especially sad since the greatest proponents of this were Ronald and Reagan and Newt Gingrich, the two best minds of the Republican party in the last 30 years.
People will care soon, however (the sh*t is going to hit the fan and in a big way.)

Because after Bush 41 said that, the Democratically controlled congress passed the big tax increase bill. Another democratic congress and a week republican president or democratic president will result in another tax screwing to us middle class. they want our money so they can control us. The country would be way better off if we didn't pay so much taxes as we are now.

They are the ones saying they won't raise taxes. The democrats are the ones saying they must raise taxes.
