For walk-up blind customers and for blind customers being transported by a seeing driver. The blind person gets out and walks around to the ATM. Some of these machines are set up to be operated from the passenger side of the vehicle.

Also, it is less expensive to make one style of ATM adapted for both the seeing and the blind than to make 2 different machines. Therefore you may see a Braille ATM in a place that would/could not normally be accessed by a blind person.

I suspect it's just a matter of economics. That is that the key pads are from the same production line, be it installed at a inside ATM or a Drive Thru ATM.

Up near the top of this page is a line: Search For Questions, and a space to type in what you're looking for. Type in braille atm and see how many other people have asked this question over the past year or so--and see what the answers are.

That's a great observation. If I were to hazard a guess, it would be so that blind bank customers getting a lift from a friend can do their own banking at the ATM without giving out their PIN number. Thanks for the laugh! Have a great day.

because atm makes the same machines for drive-thrus and regular machines so they're not gonna waste their money putting numbers on drive-thru atms

because when the ATM machines are constructed at a warehouse they are all made the same.....so that means some of those will end up at the drive through.

I suppose the passenger could be the one who needs to use it (They could get out and punch in their password). I also know people who walk to use the atms at drive thrus.

It is for when a blind person is driven to the ATM by a friend of theirs who can see well enough to drive.
