Ok the dont use the numbers at the top of the keyboard, but the numbers by the side, and then press alt hold it down and then using the side numbers press 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, and there are a lot of other codes.

Hold down the alt-key and type out the proper ASCII code on the number pad. The let go of the alt-key.
