I've lived in New Jersey Most of my life, and I gotta say there is no other place like it. I guess u could say it's like New York City except it's more liveable. Culture is very important to people in Jersey, it's who u are. The people are open minded. There is traffic i'll have to admit. Becuz u still have people going back and forth from Jersey to NYC and Newark for work every morning. That is something to get used to. The weather is great. You'll never be bored. It's a great place to live. I love it. : ) There seems to be so much energy. If you like shopping it's really good for that, wether it's designer or just from a store on main street.

New Jersey is a wonderful state. The culture is a huge mixing pot, so you have fantastic places to eat. The eastren coast of the entire state is lined with the most wonderful beaches and some of the last and origanial working board walks in the entire country. When youre from New Jersey you learn how to drive tackfully and quickly while avoiding accidents (lol! seriously some of the best drivers are from this state you can drive ANYWHERE if you can drive in NJ). NJ is not cheap to live, but if you can afford it you can have some of the best schooling in the country college and grade schools! people in NJ are the kind of people that can find something beautiful and interesting in just about any cloudy day or dirty street. We've been trained to see the bigger picture, and Trust me, Jersey is not just concrete. Its not the "Garden state" for the highways and the factorys. We have great plump tomatoes, red juicey cranberries, and Jersey corn perfect with a little salted butter. Stars are born in this state too, great singers, amazing actors, inspiring writers and artists. Romantic spots, sporting events, and we share a great history with this country running side by side to New York and Pennsylvania's historic places and events. I love and hate being a Jeresy girl. we are the gemini twins of the USA.

NJ is a nice place to live. But, others are right about the high cost of living. BUT then again, it depends on where you live. The suburbs can get pretty expensive housing wise, and car insurance. But, i haven't noticed other needs(groceries, etc) being higher, and I have lived in both Boston and DC (VERY EXPENSIVE compared to NJ!!!!!) It's a trade off because NJ is a really great place to live. The suburbs are very safe and there is high quality public education. Depending on where you are it is a diverse mix of people. Some towns are very conservative, but then again, they are small, so the next town over is most likely more diverse. It is so close to NYC and you have the shore...so, i think it is a high quality of living. That is, if you can deal with the traffic and NYers coming to the shore during the summer..lol

i recently moved out of NJ (south Jersey). they have a fantastic public school system (my daughter since graduated from college). as previously mentioned...high property taxes (i considered that my daughter's high school tuition) and outrageous prices on homes. the 4 bedroom home on 3/4 acre i now live in (in upstate PA) would probably sell for nearly double in South Jersey and my taxes are about 40% of what they would be down in the flatlands.
NJ has some great beaches, great restaurants (that is one thing i miss up here in northeatern PA) and easy access to Philly. New York City and Washington DC are not all too far of drive for a day trip.
also as previously mentioned, NJ is a Liberal state. as an avid hunter, the gun laws were a little too strict. you can make as many laws as you want and even ban guns but the criminals will always get them one way or another, but that is a different forum for discussion.

It's a pretty nice State. Great food (Just like NY). Traffic is bad and so are most drivers. All 'U' and left turns are made from the right lane (Jughandles). Run by democrats. Sort of a mini NY. People are actually nice once you get them out of their cars. Good schools, expensive homes, high taxes, good pay.

There are good and bad things about it.
Bad
----way overpriced in comparison to other parts of the country....suburban communities are often more urban too
---pretty much all the cities in NJ are absolutely awful...newark, paterson, camden, trenton, etc....you will want to avoid them
---taxes and car insurance are also very high
---people....some nice....many rude.....people just tend to say whatever they want and are a bit selfish in my opinion
Good
---variety of food ....delis and diners are great....and you can find just about any type of restaurant
--Jersey shore
---close enough to NYC, Philly, Boston, D.C. etc.
---shopping is great....so many malls
---variety of entertainment
