They Egyptians mummified anything they could get their hands on!

There were a lot of cats, but also hippos (!?!), the ibis, crocodiles, baboonns, etc - basically any sacred animal, and by the end just about everything was sacred.

Check out Tuna el Gebel, which was the necropolis town for Hermopolis. There are literally hundreds of thousands of mummies buried in the catacombs, which even to this day have not been fully mapped due to their size.

Egyptians have experimented mummifying many animals but none more then cats, cats were worshipped in some parts of the country and so they were reveared with god like praise and given the same death respects as men in many cases. You can probably google this for yourself.

Egyptians usually mummified their Kings and Queens or Pharaohs, but they also mummified their cats, since they believed cats to be sort of like gods and wanted them in the afterlife.
