The equation is
2Mg + O2 >> 2 MgO

3g / 24.312 = 0.123 mole Mg
1 g / 32 = 0.0313 mole of oxigen
The ratio between Mg and O2 is 2 : 1
oxigen is the limiting reactant
The ratio between O2 and MgO is 1 : 2
1 : 2 = 0.0313 : x
x = 0.0626 mole MgO produced
Molecular weight = 40.3 g/mol
0.0626 mol x 40.3 g/mol = 2.5 g of MgO produced

2Mg + O2 == 2MgO

One mole of Mg will react with one mole of oxygen atoms = 1/2 mole of O2 gas.

Look up the molecular mass of magnesium and oxygen and you can see the ratyios of how they will combine.
