There's no arch support, and no lateral support, and there's no protection in front to keep your toes from being smashed into anything.
Arch support is important to keep that natural arch in your foot. You'll realize this when you get older and the arch starts to flatten out. It hurts every time you take a step then. Having that support now helps keep this from happening.
Lateral support helps keep you from twisting or spraining your ankle. Imagine playing basketball or tennis in flipflops. Stopping or turning would be impossible in them, compared to a decent pair of tennis shoes.

They are bad because there is no arch support. Though there are some sandles (yea I know its not flip flops but w/e) that have support for your feet. But most of them, flip flops, are just like walking bare foot.

there are some good's and bad's with flip-flops. a good thing is that they air out your feet, but the bad thing is that there's no support for your feet.

yes, they are bad for your feet because it can cause you to develop flat feet. most people's feet have an arc, however some have no arc; also known as flat feet. if you choose to wear sandals, purchase the ones with an arc to support your feet (like rainbow sandals, although it's a little expensive)

they dont support the arch of your foot at all, so you get flat footed, and that affects your knees, which affects your hips, which affects your back, etc...
