Yes, my grandparents told me (obviously a lie) that their bed got struck by lightning and split the two apart.

My grandparents did from the 50's through the 80's. My grandfather told us (as adults) that its OK to visit though. I really cracked up as they were both so straight laced. Now that I am a grandmother, I wouldn't ever give up my queen sized bed. I think that the previous generations were just uncomfortable with the old double beds. If two people share a regular double bed they each have the same amount of width as a crib mattress. Ouch.

yep. both sets of grandparents had not only seperate beds, but seperate rooms! I think that if you have your own bed you will rest better than if someone is stealing the covers and sawing logs (snoring very loudly) all night long! I think you need seperate space - it is not like you are missing anything when you are sleeping anyway - as long as you spend quality time in the waking hours is all that matters.

No mine didn't but I work at a hotel and I have notice that alot of older people prefer to get a room with 2 beds so they can have their own bed. I guess after awhile you just like to have your space when you sleep!

My paternal grandparents had separate rooms.
But they must have gotten together sometime. They had 5 children.

My maternal grandparents lived apart after he died. She would have slept with him in the same bed if he was still alive.

yes, wealthy people not only had separate bedrooms, but houses. they had agreements. not strange at all. when u sleep, sleep alone... u want to be intimate, just go visit each other in the bed, makes for less fights and more intimantcy.they had it right.
