when using for Adobe Photoshop, are there any actions or plugins that can help with out too much touching up or messing with the Variations tool?

Unless you have any issues with the prints, LEAVE IT AS IT IS.

If you want best possible colour rendition, get a "spider" colour calibration tool, it reads colours on monitor, and from a "test print" and then creates monitor and printer profiles to make monitor and prints as close as possible.

Because the RGB and CMYK color gamuts do not match exactly, there will always be a slight loss of color fidelity. You may calibrate your monitor and output device as the Kilted Scot describes and that should be good enough for non-professional applications. If this is for a client, I would suggest a professional photo retoucher and a matchprint proof that your printer follows as a color guide. If you are trying to match a specific color (like a team jersey), be sure to provide your proofer with a sample of the color so they have a color target to match to.
