In these days of e mail, conference calls, Fed Ex and fax, you don't need to limit yourself to Orange County - not exactly a hotbed of publishing. Go to the library and use Literary Marketplace - the writer's Bible. You cannot check it out so bring a notebook. It costs 300 dollars if you want to buy one. Go through publishers and agents in your genre and copy down submission info along with names and addresses.

Then you have to research them through Preditors and Editors, Absolute Write Water Cooler, Writers Wall, Writers Weekly and any other sources to find out if they are legit.

From there, follow submission requirements. I have starred a lot of Q and A with great info on writing. You can access it by adding me as fan. It saves the trouble of weeding through Resolved Questions. Print a bunch out and study them. Pax - C

Yes. What kind are you looking for? Novels, poems, technical books, etc?
