When I was young we visited Atlantic City well after its glory days. A hotel was recommended to us by a senior citizen and so we chose that one to stay.

When we got there the place was a dump but we had no other alternative. My mother, sister, and I shared one of these old beds where a light bulb hung above us. When we all got in the whole bed fell in. Plus it was not the cleanest place. Needless to say, no one got any sleep that night.

I think the senior who recommended it was thinking about how it use to be when they last visited this hotel.

Life experiences - gotta love it

While checking into a fairly decent looking motel in Southern Louisiana I noticed several adults males loitering at the end of the parking lot They appeared to be drinking beer, but I saw no real threat. Being extra cautions I was sure to unload and lock my pickup truck.

About 10 minutes after I went to bed I heard some shouting in English and Spanish just outside my door followed by several gunshots.

I rolled out of the bed and laid on the floor. Several minutes later I saw the blue lights flashing through the window and I thought everything was fine. It was just before midnight and I went back to bed.

About 2:00 AM I awoke to more shouting and shooting. I hit the floor again and stayed there until daylight when I made my escape. I never asked any questions or made any complaints.

We were in Minocqua, WI on a fall weekend. We stayed at a chain hotel. The room was ok, the a little small. We got to the hotel later in the evening, checked in and went to get something to eat. After returning from supper we were tired so we retired for the evening. About midnite we were awakened to the sound of motorcycles in the parking. Unbeknownst to us there was a big motorcycle rally in town. Apparently our hotel was occupied by mostly bikers. I went to speak with the kid behind the front desk about the noise. There wasn't anything he could do about it. So we had a bit of a rough night. The hotel refunded our money the next morning when we checked out. The bikers were well behaved. It was just that the sound of 65 Harleys coming into a parking lot at the same time makes a little noise.

My husband ,2 kids and I were coming back from Gatlinburg, TN. Around 2 AM hubby decided he couldn't drive anymore and I can't see well at night so we stopped at the first open motel which were tiny cabins.
It was a dirty place with a rusty shower and some bugs. We left our clothes on and slept on top of the covers.
The worse part was they had put us in a room next to a curve in the road and when semi trucks came by they were so loud and close, their headlights shone right in the windows and it seemed they would come crashing through the wall. Only the kids slept that night.

I went to a convention in St Louis and stayed in the Adams Mark Hotel when it had just opened. They were still finishing it off on some floors. The first morning I had a 8:30 presentation to give and got up to take a shower and -- NO WATER! I had to rush off and felt really gross. And then every other morning I was woken up by hammering and other noise. It was a big convention and I couldn't find another hotel room anywhere downtown.

We went to the grand opening of the Eldorado Hotel in Reno, Nevada. They had a nice grand opening show in the main casino, and then we went to see The Righteous Brothers in the Grand Ballroom. We had a nice room, but then in the morning, when it was time for check-out we went to the elevators to go down to check-out and NONE of the elevators were working..
We were staying on the 8th floor and ended up having to schlep our luggage down the 8 stories of stairs to get out of there.
Another time we were in Las Vegas, and there was a convention and the town was fully booked. We ended up at
a quaint motel on the north side. During the night we were abruptly awaken by the sound of the train blowing its horn, as it passed by the back of the motel. I almost literally hit the ceiling at the sound of the train horn blast. Talk about a rude awakening. You had to be there. Sounded like it was coming through the room.

Oh my! It was a trip to New York...my first! Geesh, hubby was there on business for a week and i went along and took a friend. Well, he forgot to get his credit card from the company and so, I ended up having to cover the hotel expenses with my "spending money".

Now, the reason it was horrible? My friend and I came back from a short trip in the city and we were tired! I got out the card to the room and nothing! Finally, we went to the office and I was told we were locked out! Our things were being held in the room! I asked them why?? That was when THEY explained to me that my husband had given them the wrong credit card number! I was SO embarrassed. He had tried to remember the card number and it was wrong! That is when I had to pay the bill with my own money so I could get back into the room and get my things.

Needless to say, I was NOT happy with hubby and I was ready to leave New York and come back home....without him! LOL!

The only saving grace...the company worked it out with the hotel and such and everything worked out fine!....the day before we were to leave!

We were traveling from Philadelphia to Southern California in 1971. I had been transferred to the First Marine Division for duty from the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia. We stopped every night along the way. My very pregnant wife, my two young sons and me. All the accomodations along the way were excellent, until that last night in Santa Barbara. We stayed at the west coast equivalent of the Bates' Motel from the movie "Pyscho".

In Memphis. It was a regular chain. I forget the name, but I bought it through Priceline and it was so dirty and it was a terrible experience!! It was not one star either, it was at least two, but the quality was worse than a one star.

Also, when I was fourteen, my parents and I stayed at a hotel in Indianapolis. I was on the floor going over a notebook, just trying to relax and when I got up, there was a smudge of dirt on my arm from the carpet!! It didn't look dirty, so how was I to know? GROSS!!!

Drove all night long, arrived at the only motel in the world with a vacancy--checked in at 4:45 in the morning. At 7 AM they literally took a jack hammer to the concrete steps on our room. My wedding day!!! ha!

My husband and I stayed at an Embassy Suites in San Diego. As relative newlyweds, we were eager to "christen" the bed. Right in the middle of this good time, another couple just walked in. They had a key and everything! We called down and told them what happened and were told it was a mistake (no kidding?) and for some reason, our room was listed as unoccupied.
We got back down to business and it happened again! This time, a woman and her daughter opened the door. We gave up, went downstairs and made a formal complaint to the management. Luckily, it didn't happen again.
