My husband and I are considering moving into an active adult community once my mother passes away. We live out in the middle of nowhere right now to be near her, but we are very socialble. Plus, we have too much yardwork to do and are really tired of fighting a constant battle with it!

Another reason we want to move: my husband has a bad heart, and we want to live near decent hospitals.

I also wanted to add that it's not like my husband and I are just waiting for my mother to pass away. We both love her very much. She is a wonderful lady. She is frail and has Alzheimer's disease. It is getting harder and harder to take care of her.

We have quite a few Del Webb communities here in California. I have a friend that lives in one of them. They are very happy there.

These communities are "on the go" communities. There are over 40 different card clubs in their community. And, of course, there are all of the other things, basically, anything that you might find enjoyable, you can find either in the community or close by.

Enjoy your search, you'll have a ball!

I had a wonderful friend that lived in Sun City and then I think Sun City West, not sure now. I went to visit many times. There were always activities and wonderful supper clubs and winter baseball camps to go watch. To me the annoying part was trying to get from point a to point b without being stopped 15 times and someone asking where you were from and wanting to talk for a half hour. We used to go to Sanoma for lunch, beautiful place same stop and talk. Dodging golf carts also seems strange to me. Her Sun City home was beautiful and had a large gravel yard and all the trash was underground and not usually a human or a dog anywhere. My first thought was a moon scape. Lots of things to do you choose. I had some other friends that were looking at Lake Havasue.

It really depends on how much you like rules. My in laws lived in an adult community, and it was so restrictive they didn't like it. Visitors could only use one pool, only during a few hours of the day, we couldn't keep the garage door open to play ping-pong, once during a birthday celebration, they received a notice that we were laughing too loud, in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. No visitors were allowed in the craft rooms for any reason.
