I never knew when I lost mine, and I started dilating before I went into labor.

You could have lost it-but may not have.

As you near the end of your pregnancy, your cervix will begin to thin out and dilate. As it changes, you may lose your mucus plug and find a gooey deposit in your underwear or on the toilet tissue after wiping. It is not uncommon for this mucus to be mixed with brown, pink, or red streaks of blood from the changes occurring within your cervix. Some women may lose the plug at 36 weeks' gestation, while many others may not lose it until labor has begun. Sometimes moms-to-be may not even notice that they are losing their mucus plug because it happens gradually, over several weeks, and they've already grown accustomed to varying but increased amounts of the vaginal discharge that often accompanies a normal pregnancy.

Your mucus plug can come out all at once of in little pieces. It can be clear all the way to blood streaked. No you dont have to loose your plug to dilate. I am 2 cm and i still have mine. My first to labours i didnt lose it until i was 4cm or more. But thats just me. If your discharge is thinnish then yeah its just the regular stuff. Good Luck and safe delivery!

nope some people don't lose it untill they are in labor... your most likely seeing the end of pregnancy discharge that comes from hormons so it protects from bacteria. I personaly dialted a cm a week for 3 weeks and didn't loose mine untill the night i went into labor. others loose it and then a few days later go. If there is no bood prob not your mucas plug.
