If we aren't, why can't we just get up and walk away from the system of living we currently have?
nobody really can as you know what will happen to them, they will end up dead in a ditch.

Being a slave includes the removal of free will. And I suppose we can take away our own free will with feelings of insecurity. We can I suppose be slaves to anything in a way.
We choose to be bound to others and jobs and houses. Taking away the choice I suppose is then slavery. If we have the ability to put something down out of our lives and don't then it can't be slavery.

A slave eats and drinks that which his master allows. Lives where his master tells him and is sold from one owner to another without consideration. I don't think a wage slave is comparable but I well understand the frustration you feel as I did before retirement.

I agree with your assessment that we are confined to the reality we've created for ourselves. Life as we know it doesn't have to exist they way it does today. Our hostile nature has made life dangerous for mankind and all of life itself. We have chosen to be war-like-people thus we have a world that is war-like.
To be free to me would be knowing that I could wake up in the morning and didn't have to carry a gun, mace, or any other object of violence with the ability to walk from point A to point B in complete freedom, but perhaps those with their own problems aren't happy so they don't want to see anyone else happy and so here we are.

We are a social species. Talking wouldn't be so great if it didn't serve our survival. If we are going to walk out, we need to do it at the same. On the count of three, everybody laugh. Whoever is laughing, let's walk out!
