If it has USB interface, that should be plug and play, unless it is not yet formatted. To format, right click my computer, click manage, click Disk Management. That external drive will appear on the right portion of the Computer Management Window. Right click on it to partition and format the drive.

Worked for me on my external drive that I just assembled more than a month ago.

after you have installed the soft ware for the drive re boot when you have and every thing has loaded up un plug the drive power cord for a second and then plug it back in then xp will pick it up and load it even if you have an int drive .
