I had one two months ago and my Dr. suggested that I take two Tylenol before going. Thankfully I did. lol For me it felt like a cramp that slowly increased in severety. I would say that it was as bad as really bad cramping before a period. As mommy said, take a panty liner with you (they actually gave me two of the hospital "pillow" pads when I was done). You will probably be sore for a few days after it, which I am told is normal.

Best of luck!

I just had an HSG, and it wasn't too bad. During the procedure, there was a pinch of pain, like a bad period cramp, that lasted maybe 30 seconds. But after that, I felt fine! Later that evening, I had some cramping, again like bad period cramps, but they were manageable.

My doctor recommended that I take 800mg of Advil one hour before the test, and I think that really helped. Both because the pain wasn't so bad, and because I wasn't as nervous about the pain! I also took Advil later in the day to deal with the period-type cramps.

Good luck!

I had one last year. The actual HSG was not painful at all, just a pinch. No more uncomfortable than a PAP. I did have a lot of cramping afterward.

I had one done last year... It HURT when they did mine. But that could have also been because I was so tense and nervous. I think that was because this doc looked like a rookie at doing this UGH.

Just relax... you may feel a pinch. You may also want to bring a pad with you (but they may provide it) some women bleed after the test is performed.

You should be carefull of what you take before hand as some medication can thin your blood and actually make you bleed more.

Good Luck!

If you have a blockeage it can be painful, ask your dr if you can take codine or another heavy pain reliever first. Good luck, sometimes an HSG can unblock a tube and help you get pregnant

First of all relax. I only found that it was slightly uncomfortable. Take a couple of tylenol about 20 min before and you will be fine. Take a pantyliner with you as there is sometimes a little blood afterwards. All you feel afterwards is a little crampy...no worse than period cramps. Sometimes if there is a blockage, the dye can push it out.
