here is the scenario. For about the past year my car would stick in park without letting me change to any other gear for about 5 minutes every time I started it, unless its warm then it usually will only take about 30 seconds. And now it won't start or even make an attempt to start..any ideas on what could be the problem. All electronics work fine

Bad ignition switch or neutral safety switch or the Passlock anti-theft system is not allowing you to start. Sticking in Park would probably be the shifter interlock cable is out of adjustment---won't let you shift unless your foot is on the brake pedal---could be electrical also.
