In general, who do you think is the most powerful gang? By gang i mean the mafia, yakuza, crips, ms-13 (street gangs and organized crime)I've been thinking, street gangs such as ms-13 have members over 100,000, but organized crime families such as yakuzas have members of about 85,000. (info from wikipedia)street gangs may be big in numbers, but organized crime families such as yakuzas/traids/italian mobs have more money and connections in business and political...overall who do you think is bigger and better?

It depends on what you mean by power. In Japan the yakuza have a lot of money and influence, but outside Japan they don't have so much power. Similarly, a MS-13 member in Japan isn't going to have much luck. Criminal organizations are always going to be the most powerful on their own turf.

In terms of influence in their own regions, street gangs tend to have more members than organized crime syndicates, and may have more direct power at the neighborhood level. However, they rarely have the kind of important business, political, and police ties as organized crime groups. I think organized crime has the advantage here, largely because they ARE better organized.

I'm no expert on organized crime, but I'd guess that the triads are the most powerful in terms of the number of members, scope of operations, and size of their territory. The triads operate not only in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China, but other parts of southeast Asia and in Chinatown areas around the world from Australia to the US.

If you're trying to imaging what would happen if all the criminal groups got into a big fight, it's important to remember that there are many different factions and families within each group. It's not like all the triad groups are working together. Same for the Mafia families and other organized crime. They'll cooperate and form alliances with each other when it suits them, but they'll also fight amongst themselves when their interests clash.

When you look at global crime or the statistics at Interpol they will tell you that the Russian Mafia has by far the most influence and power. They run everything in Russia and are the main exporters of black market heavy arms and nuclear weapons (allegedly).....
