Ovulation is when your ovaries release an egg that can possibly be fertilized. It does NOT always happen 10-15 days after your period, nor does it happen exactly in the middle of the cycle. For most women, it USUALLY doesn't. (Mine occurs at 23-25 days.) If you believe that myth, you may find yourself pregnant when you didn't expect to be, or trying to conceive at the wrong time. The truth is, ovulation can come regularly, or it can be delayed by stress or illness.
Your ovulation will usually be 13-15 days before your next period. The pre-ovulation phase can be of varying lengths, but the post-ovulation phase stays pretty much the same in each individual woman.
You can tell if you are going to ovulate by watching your cervical fluids (discharge.) When it starts to look like egg whites and becomes stretchy, that is a sign that your body is entering its fertile phase and is gearing up to ovulate. It doesn't always mean that you will ovulate, but your body is trying. Some women, usually those with Polycycstic ovary syndrome, may not ovulate regularly. You can have a "period" even if you didn't ovulate.

I won't explain all of women's fertility here, but just be warned that all cycles are different and you cannot count on the myth that all women ovulate at day 14 and have a 28 day cycle.

The BEST way to understand your particular cycle is to chart your temperature and fertility signs everyday. I highly recommend learning about "Fertility Awareness Method" and reading the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility."

Ovulation is when the egg is released from the ovary and begins to travel down the Fallopian tube toward the Uterus. If, on the way, it is fertilized by a sperm, then when it arrives, it implants in the side wall of the uterus and pregnancy begins. If it is not fertilized, then it simply gets washed away with the endometrium (lining of the uterus) during menstruation.

It USUALLY occurs midway through your cycle, but can vary greatly across women.

Ovulation - the ripening and discharge of an egg or eggs from the ovary for possible fertilization.

It happens for most females between Day 14 and 16 of her cycle. It varies though from girl to girl.
