Ask a question - get a question back rather than a legitimate answer. Or, a smarmy remark. Are they afraid of living in real time? Can they think on their own?

The majority of them are like that because it is better to come back with so-called 'sarcastic' comments than actual facts and logical answers.

I just laugh.

Remember the vituperous nature of this particular site, and keep in mind that if your question isn't carefully worded, people will assume the worst. Typed questions don't carry facial expressions or tone of voice to let people know that you're being sarcastic, or telling a harmless joke.

Basically if you don't want defensive answers, be very careful to ask questions that don't sound like partisan attacks. Especially phrases like "Can't they think on their own?"

I don't know, it depends on the question. Some people are like that, it has nothing to do with political views, and everything to do with how well you can argue your position and how well you know what you're talking about.

In general, an attacking question deserves nothing more than either a defensive answer or a counter-attacking question in response. Unfortunately, your Yahoo! Answers profile is set to "private", so I can't go back and verify your specific claims to see what your questions were.

Ask a legitimate question in respect, and you'll get a legitimate answer in respect. What do you want to know?

I asked you several questions in relation to your previous posting and question and you still haven't answered it. Your premise was so faulty in the first place that it had to be addressed before answering your question. This isn't a defensive mode, this is called questioning your premise. You obviously have your mind made up and your questions are obviously so bent toward one position that anyone with a legitimate answer and questioning of your premise completely offends you. Why? Because you don't know how to ask a legitimate question without preconceived bias or without sounding like an attack in the first place.

Why are so many reps on auto defense mode?
Ask a question - get a swear back rather than a legitimate answer. Or, a childish and stupid remark. Are they afraid of living in the present? Is blaming past leaders the only thing they can do?

EDIT - John, I curse the day I thought you write the best write-ups on this forum !

If you've been on this forum for very long, you'll know it goes both ways.
We DO think on our own. As a matter of fact, that's what generally pisses off the cons. We don't believe everything the current administration tells us, so according to most cons, we're unAmerican!

Of course they think on their own. It isn't Democrats that come in here every day with talking points they got from their favorite right wing pundits. That would be the Republicans. I notice that you are always in auto attack mode against the liberals. It's hard to see a difference between you and them when it comes to that.

Could it be because so many "questions" are like this one, simply thinly veiled insults, rather than asking anything substantive which can be answered with facts and reason?

Yes, that is a question, but it is also a legitimate answer.

Just checked back on a lot of my responses to posts like this, and. . . Nope. Pretty much on the offensive. Will not stop till Rove, Gonzales, Ashcroft, Rice, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney and BUSH are in prison.

Perhaps you ask slanted questions that don't deserve an answer. If "Why are so many libs on auto defense mode?" is indicative of your questions in general, then their is no legitimate answer and it is deserving of a "smarmy" remark.
