Whenever there are unmarried characters in books (or those not in a relationship), lots of fangirls and guys decide that the characters must be gay and in love with each other. It's stupid; just ignore it. There is no hints to this- they've been close friends since childhood. Some people have weird imaginations.

If you're looking at fanfiction pairings, there are far stranger ones out there than Remus/Sirius. Some people write stories about Professor Snape having an affair with Hermione, or Draco falling in love with Harry. But the thing about fanfiction is that people can write about the characters doing whatever they want them to do, it doesn't have to be based very closely on the original book.

If you are bothered by the idea of Remus and Sirius having a romantic relationship, don't read fanfiction or look at fan art about this pairing. It's pretty easy to avoid it. You've read the books yourself, and you know that J.K. Rowling never wrote "And then Remus and Sirius entered into a same-sex civil union".

The books show them as old friends, and anything else is left up to the reader's imagination. If you don't like imagining that they had a romantic relationship then you don't have to. But some people do like the idea, and that's their right too.

Are you asking if they were a couple? Well, certainly Ms. Rowling doesn't give any indication to that, however much slash fans may disagree. However, the thing is, Remus, as a werewolf, would most likely not have many friends growing up. The friends he made became like family to him. Who doesn't have a fight with his/her brother or sister?

Remus lived with Sirius and the others for 7 years, there were bound to be some times were Sirius irritated the crap out of him right? Especially after the stunt ol' Padfoot pulled with Snape back in 5th year.

I think they were close like brothers. They had their scraps and whatnot, but they forgave each other. If anything, Severus' comment is replete with spite, and even perhaps a touch of envy since he most likely did not have a bond to anyone like Sirius and Remus.

Plus, little Teddy Lupin is evidence that Remus wasn't gay.

I don't think you can be good friends with someone and be agree with them all the time. I honestly believe that the better the friends, the more dramatic the disagreements. Do you heatedly disagree with someone that you don't know very well about the "little things?" Usually not. . . . you're not comfortable expressing yourself to just anyone. When you have a close friend, you're comfortable being yourself and letting your opinions and feelings show. The fact that they fought like an "old married couple" just means that they were great friends. It's a nasty way to put it but, then again, Snape wasn't going to win any prizes for being nice!

add to above: They were the last of the Potter's inner circle. Lupin had hated Sirius for betraying the Potters for so long, then he found out Sirius was innocent.... can you imagine the relief and guilt he must have felt? The amount that Sirius had suffered in Azkaban as an innocent man?
They were both innocents and outcasts at the same time, with people who would destroy them in an instant if given a chance. Sirius needed someone to KNOW he was innocent, and Lupin needed someone to validate his worthiness in spite of his werewolf condition.
They had shared too much not to be closer than blood brothers, get your mind out of the gutter, and read with your brain and heart!

I think they fought like an old married couple because they had know each other for so long (believe me the way you fight with someone you have know 20 yrs is different than the way you "disagree" with a casual friend!) and been such great friends. I think the reason they were fighting so much (and I think it was more disagreeing not fist fights) was that they were confined to the house. Sirius because he escaped for prison and Remus was in hiding with the werewolf thing.

There is nothing sexual implied by them fighting like an old married couple.

Of course they were just friends although they probably were more like brothers since both, as has been stated, were outcasts. Remus, as a werewolf, from wizarding society and Sirius from his family who were supporters of Voldemort. Those who like to start rumours like this just get their kicks that way. They are "bulllies" who either have grown tired/bored of picking on those smaller than themselves or are too afraid and chose to pick on characters that are not even real. After all, the characters can't fight back, can they.

Yeah, I agree with you. They were just really old friends...the only two left after Wormtail turned to the dark side and James died...so I think after Remus discovered Sirius was actually the good guy, their friendship increased.

yeah they were just friends. Snape probably meant that they fought a lot or disagreed on things.
