Think about it: If any of those schemes promoted on the sports gambling websites really worked consistently, then all the bookies would go out of business because they would lose money.

Gamble for fun if you have the extra money to lose, but don't count on it being a source of income. You'll find that it's quite the opposite.

First, answers remarking about the bookies profits are way off base. This is not blackjack or craps, where you are betting against the bookie. In sports betting (including horse racing), the loser's money goes to the winners. The bookies quote odds the keep the balance between betters balanced and make their money by taking a piece out of the middle. They don't care if you're right or wrong; they want volume. Dog racing is a random event. Nobody knows enough about the dogs and the dogs don't race long enough to have a meaningful history.

So yes, you can make money because you don't have to beat unbeatable math; you just have to be smarter than the other guy. But you have to be smarter by a big enough margin to cover the bookie's percentage.

I know one guy who became a professional gambler, but he quit. He had a good income, but the analysis of the horses took as much time as a full time job, and he hated it, so he went back to his old job.

It's simple... I follow what I believe. I consider many different beliefs and follow those that make the most sense to me. I just do the best with what I've got. If I'm going to be punished for that, so be it. I did my best to figure out and do what I thought was right, that's all I can do. For the record, I was not raised in my current religion, but I have been practicing it for 18 years now. But in my religion, there is no such thing as "right" one-- all religions are man-made ways to attune with a Higher Power. We should try to find the one that helps us do that best, but they all lead to the same place. So the ideas of Pascal's wager, that some people are right or some people are wrong, is irrelevant to my faith.

When I went to my first dog race, which was the first race of any kind for me - I asked those old timers for some help. The guy with the big gold chain and the gold dog pendent gave me all he knew - and I saw him lose about 50% of the time. Another guy told we about the dogs who had been bread right at that track and why that gave them the advantage - and the track conditions and why that gave some other dog the advantage etc. etc. With all that research and experience neither of those guys was going to get rich. I have never seen anyone brag about how much they lost - after all it is only a few bucks at a time - but a win is a lot more easy to remember. Gambling is entertainment, not income.

yes bookies can be very successful. The people who make bets on sports are mostly adrenaline junkies who over time lose more than win. Winners are usually less frequent players just waiting to be losers.
