I hate it with an everloving passion. It's just a money maker for the league, and that is no reason to end careers. A 17 week, 16 game schedule is grueling enough, why add to it with four meaningless games? Cut preseason at least to two and mix in some low contact exhibitions or 7 man football against an opponent.

It is frustrating. It's vey hard to get players ready without letting them play in game situations, but there's always a risk of injury. As a fan, it's hard to see your team lose even in the preseason and you want to see your favorite players.
The preseason doesn't actually make very much money for teams. Most of the teams would prefer to cut preseason down to 2-3 games.
These are professional players and they should have professional trainers. They need to be very serious about stretching and warm-up exercises. They need to stay loose on the sidelines so that injuries are kept to a minimum. Most achillies tendon injuries are preventable with proper pre-game stretching. The players have so much to gain by being in shape and so much to lose by not taking warm-ups seriously.
Of course some injuries aren't preventable and are part of the sport. I'm sure most players would agree with me that artificial turf should be outlawed. Natural grass should be the only surface allowed for football, but that's probably not possible since there are so many indoor stadiums these days. For all of it's advantages, it's very hard on the body.

Hate the artificial turf the most. It is what claims the most victims.
Without the preseason, you would have terrible football the 1st couple weeks of the season.
Also, it is not really for the fans. A lot of the coaches don't even gameplan for the team that they are playing against. They have to have time to evaluate talent. They have to get players up to game speed. Look at McNabb coming back for injury. He looked tired. He needs to get his conditioning up for games and that can only be set by having actual competition. I don't like it either, but it has a definite purpose.

Yes, I hate the preseason. Fans pay full ticket prices to see the starters play 2 series, then we get to see nationally televised 3rd stringers for 4 weeks. Everyone says its for people to get a chance to make to team or move up on the depth chart, but that can be done intersquad, you see in practice who's got it and who doesn't. Sportscenter shows the highlights, and people talk about Brady Quinn lighting up 4th stringers. It's just annoying, I want REAL football now! Preseason is way too long. A whole month of nobodies, and people referencing crappy teams having good preseasons as if it matters. UGH! Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

it may have gone away, but now the NFL Network broadcasts all the games and they can't do away with all their programming. The preseason is a joke, but the owners get ALL the revenue from preseason games. no sharing, except for the live gate with the opposing team. The owner's are not going to give that up.

I don't hate the preseason, as it gives you a little appetizer before the meal, but I do agree that it should be shorter. Even 3 games would be better. You are right, there is too much of a risk for injuries.

I agree. That is why coaches try to limit their star players to so many series in a game. Another that ticks me off is the fact that the NFL charges you FULL price for pre-season tickets (I am a season ticket holder). I find this so unfair, knowing your starters barely play and it's only a scrimmage. They should at least give you the option of buying them when you purchase your season tickets every year. It's so pathetic how the NFL tries to make money every which way they can. SEE NFL NETWORK as well.

I can't wait for football season to begin already. My favorite team is, of course, the Packers. I'd like to see them to become a team to beat with updated defense... Last season, they did awful, but Aaron Rodgers had a great year. We've got Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, A.J Hawk, Al Harris, Charles Woodson, and much more. If their defense would be as good as in 2007, they'd be a tough team to beat. If Favre will join the Vikings, I would like to see him to do well. I agree that is little annoying that he keeps changing his mind about retirement. He just loves to play football.. In addition, I'd like to see how well he'd play against his former team Packers. It just would be very interesting to watch. Other than Packers, I like Giants and Jets. I grew up in New Jersey, but I always have liked the Packers better. I was disappointed when then Giants beat the Packers at NFC chamption, but at least, Giants ended Patriots' "perfect" record 18-1.

I like it and i hate ! I like it because you get a chance to see all your rookies and free agents have a chance to play and see what they got , and after 8 months of no football, i'll watch a pro exhibition flag football game ! BUT, i do hate the fact that its way too long. 3 Games should be the max ! 2 to get back into the swing of things for the starters, and let the 3rd game be a back-up game, a last chance to compete for the 2nd and 3rd string positions !

I'm with you. I only watch it because my husband does. I think it's the same everywhere. I'm from Massachusetts & it seems there are so many injuries before they even begin the actuall season.. Sometimes I think they do that to pick off the weakest one. Just my opinion, besides, I'm a baseball nut all the way. Sorry, but I have to go with Boston on all our pro sports, but then again, everyone else likes their own home team. I wish all of you the best on your home teams. (guess I'm the only woman who answered!)
