I want to get a better phone since mine was a free phone that came with my t-mobile service. But I don't want to have to extend my contract or any of that mess. So I'm looking at phones on Ebay. If I buy an unlocked phone that is compatible with T-Mobile Service (i.e. the Sidekick 3), what do I do when I get teh phone to continue my service? Take the sim card out and put it in the new phone? I would imagine since i have the equipment protection option with my service, I would need to let T-mobile know, but would that option still be available even though I didn't purchase the phone directly from them?
Thanks for your time-

since you have the protection program on your phone it will not go onto your sidekick since you didnt purchase the protection program for that phone and you are not able to add it to the sidekick since you didnt not buy it from t-mobile

You are correct. Also, if you do not have your original phone and it is locked, t-mobile can help with that.
They will continue your service as long as you keep paying your bills.
