In a book I'm reading, there is a lady in her 50s who just found out her implants are leaking. She is going to have surgery (3 hours) to remove them, obviously. This got me to thinking..

How dangerous is breast implant removal surgery? Is the death rate high? Any complications likely?

Thank you for answering a curious poster!!

implant removal is a fairly safe procedure in and of itself, and I don't know that any woman has died from the procedure. The danger is in the implants themselves, depending on what they were filled with, either sillicone or normal saline. Sillicone has been known to cause severe illnesses and even death. The worst complication to this surgery is the risk of infection, and the change in self image.
