Run CPU-Z

Then to determine your upgrade options, go to crucial and press "scan my system"

If you have a pre-built computer then you should have documentation showing you what memory is installed. If you don't you can go to the site of most manufacturers and see what kind of memory your computer was configured with.

The primary factors are going to be:
- Type of RAM, SD-RAM, DDR, DDR2, something like that.
- Size of RAM, How many pins and size of memory in MB or GB.
- How much memory does your system support.

Most systems will allow you at least up to 2 Gig or GB of memory these days, some even more. You want to make sure you have room for expansion or you will need to replace the memory you have rather than add to it.

This may sound like a lot but memory upgrading is easy. I would recommend if you have a prebuilt you use the link below to find what Crucial suggests or you can choose the scan my system link that will actually look at your computer for you and tell you what kind of memory you have already.

You do not necessarily have to buy memory from Crucial just because you use the tool. You can write it down and check other merchants like newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com and tigerdirect.com to name a few for memory that matches what you find you need at the site. After you buy it installing it is almost as easy as putting legos together. Follow instructions or look around the net for instructions on memory upgrades.

Good luck!

Check this link out: http://www.memoryx.net/. This site will tell you what RAM you currently have, and what type of RAM you should buy that will be compatible with your system.

the only reliable way is to open the case and read the printing on the strips of ram.

be sure to read your motherboard's [mobo's] documentation on installing ram. there are size restrictions, number of strip restrictions, types, and speed limits.
