most of the time they're not actually real meteorologists.
they don't have some specialist sitting there doing science and then reporting on it.
weather people are just pretty faces who are paid to get up for a few minutes each broadcast and read a script. the actual forecast all comes from computers and the services from major meteorological centers.
why dont they save money and just have the anchor read the weather? who needs a separate weather person? it seems a horrible waste of resources.

If you knew that the weather segment has always been the most popular segment on local TV news, you might figure out why they do it.

And who cares if they're not meteorologists? It's not like the news anchors are an actual investigative reporter either...or that the sports reporter is a professional athlete or coach..or that they have actual scientists report on science-related stories. They are all "hired talent," to use the industry term. They are hired for their good looks and speaking skills, not because they are professionals in another field where they could probably make more money.

By the way, most TV stations do not consider the hired talent to be a wasted resource...they are, in fact, the image of the station and directly affect its ratings. Can you imagine if any station just had the regular news anchor read the weather report? Ratings would drop.

So are they really a waste of resources? Obviously, not...or the evolution of TV news would have gotten rid of them a long time ago.

Because the people at the anchor desk can't read maps!

If they would have only one person, the rating would probably get down. It gets boring sometimes.
