At 8 months he should be sitting up. He doesn't have to crawl or pull up but he definately should be sitting by himself. My daughter had developmental delays at first and that was one of the first signs because at 9 months she couldn't support herself sitting. You should talk to his pediatrician, all it took with my daughter was some physical therapy and occupational therapy and she caught right up and now is even ahead developmentally.

They're talking an average. My daughter is less than a week away from eight months and just started crawling yesterday, and sitting up on her own about a week ago. She did it all very suddenly.
You shouldn't worry because all babies develop at different rates. What you read in parenting books and whatnot is an average- some do it earlier, some do it later. It depends on the child.
If you continue to feel uneasy about it, ask your pediatrician at your son's 9 month well baby check up.

Dont worry about it too much, my son didnt crawl until he was 10 months and didnt walk until he was 15 months. They are all different, my friends son just started crawling at 10 months too, but my other friends son is already crawling at 5 months.. which i didnt believe until i saw it lol. And as far as sitting up maybe he is just a lazy baby? He probably just doesnt feel the need too, also chubbier babies have more of a problem, do you have a chunky baby? My girl is a chunkster and she cant even roll over yet and she is almost 6 months.

all babies are so different with what stages theyre at, my 2 yearold daughter skipped crawling and as walking at 10 months, my 1 year old was crawling at 7 months and walking at 9 months, but my next door neighbor her daughter diddnt sit up til around 8 and a half months and woouldnt walk til 15months so you see how varied they all are, dont worry just yet you may find he will be sitting up and starting to crawl all within the next 3 weeks lol, if it goes on for much longer and your still worried visit your gp and they will let you know more about his development and wether you need to worry, just dont make the mistake of comparing him to other babies that are sitting etc like i said you may find hes doing so much more in the next few weeks, also do excercises with him that will help his muscle tone, and just loads of encouragement, xx

I know it's hard but try not to worry- my older son didn't sit up until after seven months and I was also worried myself. My youngest son was crawling at 5 months, my older not until 10 months. They all are so different! I'm sure there are other things he *is* ahead on. Often they focus on other things while sort of 'neglecting' }for a lack of better words} others.

That's just an "average age"- all babies really are different. I'd ask his doctor about the sitting up independently, but as for the crawling?- some babies totally skip it and go straight to cruising/walking. My son didn't start cruising until he was close to 10 months. Ask his doctor to ease your concerns.

Just keep in mind that every baby is different and will do things at their own pace. I have seen this alot as I have a daughter of 17 months and have twin neice and nephew at 16 months. They have all done different things at different ages and they are all happy and content little toddlers.
Don't worry about what you read in articles as they are only a general guide. Just enjoy seeing your baby develope into a wonderful little boy.

"Average" doesn't mean that all babies do the exact same things at the exact same time. If you're worried about your baby's progress make sure to visit the pediatrician and ask questions. However, an extra 14 days isn't forever, and is likely still in the range of "entirely normal".

What THEY say isn't important. What your baby is doing is important. My grandson didn't sit up alone until he was ten months. I guess he just didn't want to. He started pulling himself up at about 11 months. By 14 months, we had to keep him off the coffee table, out of the toilet, away from the dog food. Your baby is probably just fine. Don't listen to all those other people. Listen to your baby and yourself.
