I have a bad habit of chewing on my own hair and now I am afraid I must have a giant hairball somewhere in my system.
I don't know what to do anymore but I have seen cats choking from doing this and I am frightened.
Please help me.

You may very well have a hairball in your stomach -- although the technical name is a trichinobezoar, or sometimes it's just called a bezoar.

Perhaps you could try chewing something else, like gum. Or switch to some sort of medicated shampoo, to make your hair taste bad. or force yourself to drop and do ten push-ups every time you catch yourself chewing on your hair. Ultimately, it's going to take time and will to train yourself out of this habit.

I don't think people choke on hairballs, if they even get them. I've been a nurse for around 25 years, a lot of the time in ER, and I've never seen-or heard of - anyone choking on a hairball.
If you are really worried about it and feel like you _must_ do something, you could try using some sort of soluble fiber, like Metamucil. Be sure to follow the directions, and drink lots of water with it. Do It for about a week.
How about gum instead, or learning some relaxation exercises?
Good luck, and try not to worry about it so much

You could try spraying something non-toxic in your hair to make it taste bad.
I wouldn't worry about a hairball, unless you're eating your hair. Cats clean themselves with the tongue and then swallow the hair in the course of normal cleaning, which causes a hairball.
I'm not even sure how people would react to hair in their system, anyway. You may just vomit, like cats, or it make go through your digestive track normally if there's not a lot of it.

Wow, Zachary9351 sure has his fans. This one changed the 3 and 5 around. I think the hair chewing is a symptom of anxiety.

I would rather vomit the hair ball than pass it the other way. Wouldn't you?
