Without any other info (which means I may be using completely incorrect assumptions), I would guess that this medal is the sort of thing that the Franklin Mint used to produce for collectors in the late 1970's and 1980s, If so, it is worth little more than the value of the gold. Franklin Mint stuff has a FM monogram mint mark somewhere on the medal.
In case you care, 1759 was the year that Gainsborough did the original painting that the medal is based on.
