goldwing, I too lived in Key West for about 12 years. I think I remember your gym. I drove a cab for 5 sixes cab company. I bet you remember the Chit Chat on duval. Breakfast was .99 and there were live chickens walking under the tables eating scraps. The sign stated "freshest eggs in town"
Yes, it's sad, the old Key West is gone, replaced with T-shirt shops and tourism traps:~(

goldwing, and the La Bodega which was a nice little sandwich shop on Simmonton Street which also sold ginger beer, which is more a type of soda drink and not beer at all
I also drove for Sun Cab, between marine salvage jobs for Key West Marine Salvage

Used to live in Key West, and yes, there is a stone that has that on it... The true conchs have a great sense of humor in all things life and death. They are all about gone now, having been displaced by ? Progress? Key West is a pathetic shadow of what it used to be. IT is nothing but tee shirt shops catering to the cruise boats now. In the 70's/80's, it was a place where art shops, artifact shops, designer clothes, etc., the best restaurants, the most fun people all came together. I owned a gymnasium there, but ... time moves and and I moved out.

Two other tombstones. The first is in a cemetery in Brooklyn:
"Here lies the body of Solomon Pease.
Under the daisies and under the trees.
Pease is not here. Only the pod.
Pease shelled out. Went home to God"
The second is in a boot hill near Anderson, South Dakota. It's brief, but tells a whole story:
"He called Jim Brown a liar".

Senator Leahy from Vermont is a HUGE batman fan. In the early ninties they let him do voice over work on the batman cartoons, he wrote the preface for a book on Batman, they gave him an extra's role in the most recent movie, finally they took pity on him and gave him a small speaking part in the next Batman movie to come...He was quoted as saying "It's a dream come true!" haha, talk about a guy who never let go of a childhood dream...

When I was a kid growing up in Nevada I was able to explore a lot of Ghost towns. There is one such ghost town in the foot hills above Battle Mountain. You can only get there on horse or ATV. When I first saw it, it was pretty much unexplored. I found a little grave yard a short ways from the town. In it most of the graves where marked with only crosses but two of the graves had hand chiseled tomb stones and they read:
"Here lies my cheating wife"
and the one next to it said:
"And here is the B****** I caught her with"

Two on either side of this guy's - we'll call him Joe Blo- grave. One said- 'here lies Mary Blo, loving wife of Joe Blo, the best woman god ever made 1889-1913' The other said- 'here lies Joyce Blo, loving wife of Joe Blo, the best woman god ever made 1914-1931' How would you feel if you were the first wife and came back to see that? These weren't their original names by the way.

There is actually a "Told you I was sick" tombstone in Tombstone AZ also. Must have been one of those country sweeping novelty fads at one time. There's also one there that reads, "Here lies Les Moore, shot with a 44. Nothing less - nothing more."
