A spoiler is important information about the plot or story that someone who hasn't already seen the show, probably wouldn't want to know.
It would "SPOIL" watching the show because it ruins the surprise. Like someone telling you Luke Skywalker was Darth Vader's son before you ever watched the movie.
When people post SPOILER warnings about a movie or TV show on discussion boards, it's so that others who haven't seen it yet, can skip reading that part until after they've watched the show too.

A spoiler is when you give away a critical part of the story (or the ending) to someone else before they've reached it. For example, saying Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father would be a spoiler. Check the source for more details.

A spoiler is just something that ruins part or all of what is to come. It can be in anything from magna, anime, movies, regular television, to books. An example would be if you didn't see the most recent episode of your favorite tv show and someone told you what happened when you didn't want to know, thus spoiling the suprise of what's to come.

When someone tells the outcome of something before others have had a chance to see it or read it.
Like the newest Harry Potter...some people haven't got to read it yet, and if I posted how it ended after I read it, it'd be a spoiler.

telling what's about to happen before you actually see it yourself...makes the suspense go away.
let me give you an example:
you are watching anime X (it's not a real anime:P)and i come and tell you that they die in the end. so you watch the anime knowing what will happen.
ps: spoilers are not only for animes. it may be for movies, books

A spoiler is the tail piece of a race car. It can also be warm, moist air, that stuff spoils bread and cheese like you wouldn't believe.

Um, well it could be a fixed wing on a vehicle that is used to create a downward force over the drive wheels.
OR
It could be information about a story that may ruin it for you if you don't know the end of the story.
