Very nice area. It is just far enough away from the Strip and touristy places in Las Vegas, yet close enough so that you can go and have fun and go out to bars and restaurants and catch a show when you want. Summerlin also has some of the best schools in Las Vegas and the homes there are VERY NICE and there are MANY gated communities out there. As the previous person stated - there are many high income (rich) people that reside there.
In all, it is a great place to live and VERY safe with crime much lower than other parts of vegas. However, one caveat is that it is also a little more somber - without much to do if you are a young person seeking to mingle and meet people - you will have to trek it out to the strip or near the strip for that. But otherwise, if you are settled or have a family - its perfect with all the things you need (grocery stores, drug stores, shopping, gyms, etc.).
Welcome to Vegas and have fun - hope this helps.

There is no Summerlin, Nevada. It's the northwest section of the City of Las Vegas. It didn't start getting built until the early 1980s. And it is quite a ways away from the Strip and downtown Las Vegas.
Now, for the downside. First, because it's inside the city, property tax rates are higher than in the unincorporated urban townships that make up most of the Las Vegas Valley.
Secondly, one of the major routes of access in and out of the Summerlin area is by way of the Summerlin Expressway and U.S. Highway 95 (also known as the Orin K. Gregson Expressway). With the construction underway to make the "O.K." eight lanes in each direction from downtown Las Vegas, the congestion during rush hour is almost eye-watering. And it's going to take another five years to finish the job.
Sorry. Just wanted you to know the downsides as well as the upsides.

I lived in Summerlin for 3 years from 2002-2005. It replaced into properly faraway from The Strip (a diverse plus in my e book), replaced into scenic (it incredibly is totally on the brink of the mountains on the west ingredient of the valley), site visitors replaced into lighter than different areas of the city, and crime replaced into low. The elevation is bigger as properly, so which you're at much less danger of flooding than the middle of the valley. (sure, it does flood occassionally in Las Vegas.)

It's nice. I moved here from LA about 2 years ago with my family. We like it. It has a bit of a reputation for being the "snobby" or "yuppie" side of town, but also has great schools, nice shopping, community parks and grass.
