It's my first year teaching third grade.
I am making a list of recommended reading books.
I already have:
*The War With Grandpa
*Fourth Grade Celebrity
*There's a Boy in the Girl's Bathroom
*The School Story
*The Report Card

It'll be a goal of the students to read at least two books off of the recommended reading list...

Can you think of any other books?

Bailey School Kids series - Debbie Dadey

Boxcar Mysteries series - Gertrude Chandler Warner (this is an awesome series - we have them all)

Two of a Kind - Megan Stine

American Girl series - Various Authors (another great series)

The Magic Treehouse series - Mary Pope Osborne (fabulous series)

The Secrets of Droon series - Tony Abbott

Ramona Quimby Age 8 - Beverly Cleary

Pink and Say - Patricia Pollaco

Little House in the Big Woods and series - Laura Ingalls Wilder ( a little bit harder reading)

The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe - C.S. Lewis

Children of Christmas - Cynthia Rylant

also.. you should have a few 4th & 5th grade level books for those little advanced readers..

Go on ebay to buy them.. you can get lots of books, at a bargain price!

That Boy in the Girls bathroom is a great book (funny!)

The Hank the Cowdog series are a big hit! When i was in third grade i read them, and now my cousin is reading them(just finished 3rd grade), and he loves them. They are a series of books that revolve around a dog on a ranch. It is a mystery series that will make you laugh forever.

I think this site has pretty good suggestions: http://www.education-world.com/summer_reading/3rd_grade.shtml . Be patient - it may take a fem moments to load, but it's worth it. If you don't like this list, do a search for "third grade reading list".

I hope this helps.
