Every time you turn on a news program such as MSNBC or CNN there is a commercial on?
And what is up with FOX news having satorical news programs on.. You are either a news channel or not.
And we wonder why the American public is uninformed and blindsided by what is hapening in the rest of the world.

Wow! TV news operations trying to sell stuff to the viewing public. Who'd of thunk it?
They are all ratings driven! That's why you have 20 minutes devoted to the latest sociopathic doings of some celebrity, rather than real news. Job one is to get people in front of the tube to watch. Whether there is news to be viewed is almost accidental. The anchors belong to the same trade union as David Letterman and Jay Leno: American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The "reporters" are graduates of university-based schools of journalism where there are no core-curriculum requirements in history, geography, foreign culture studies, or any of the sciences. The late assistant editor of the NY Times, Max Frankel, once wrote an article in their sunday magazine entitled "The Shroud", which pointed out the lack of foreign news bureaus and the like. If anything, it's gotten worse since that article appeared.
As for me, my chief source of news since 1949 has been English-language shortwave radio. In this age I can now get those broadcasts by web streaming.

It's not you,it is them. I have watched very little of CNN lately because of the commercials and I used to be a junkie. It does seem everytime I turn to it,it is on commercial. Maybe we have bad timing.
