I went to the dollar store to buy some in bulk and the lady at the checkout said they were all crap. She said her friend, who was 2 months pregnant at the time had bought 5 of them, and they all came back saying she wasn't pregnant. Also... don't get the digital ones... they gave me a false positive

I do not recommend the dollar store tests............. i am 13weeks pregnant and i just took one of those the other day just out of curiosity to see if they work and it came out negative!!!!!!!! so i would personally suggest she try a test that is a little more reliable than a test that costs a dollar. But i see this question was posted a week ago so i certainly hope she has gotten an answer by now......... i also must add i recommend the digital test, all the other tests were so confusing and i kept getting invalid, unclear results i took the digital and bam a very plain pregnant not much brain power needed to figure that out.

Same thing....only cheaper! A lot of people would rather spend about $14 - $20 because they think dollar store tests wont be accurate but they are! Both dollar store tests and the ones that can be up to $22+ work the same way and are designed for the same purpose, so yea pick one up from the dollar store, its all the same thing and it will tell her what she needs to know =), best wishes and good luck!

Yes dollar store test work just as well as the ept tests only they are a lot cheaper. A pregnancy test is designed to pick up the hcg hormone so no matter how cheap or expensive the test is it will still pick up that hormone. All you are paying for is the name brand all the test are the same.

I work for a obgyn and the test we use are the same as the dollar store test!

♥ Yes they work just as well whether they are $1 or $13, whether they are from the dollar store or a drug store. Pregnancy tests all work the same way. They are designed to pick up the HCG level in urine. Keep in mind that a negative does not always mean negative [[her HCG levels may not be high enough to detect yet]]. If you have a walk in clinic near you or a planned parenthood they give free pregnancy tests. Good Luck!

I always used pregnancy tests from the dollar store and they worked just fine. I was the same way, I didn't want to spend tons of money on a test that may come back negative. And dollar store tests are so cheap you can buy a few, especially if your friend is one of those people that likes to have a little reassurance. :o) Good luck!

They can work. Always check the expiration date first. Otherwise you could get a false reading. Also some pregnancy tests predict pregnancy earlier than others and the ones that you buy at the dollar store are at the later end of that category. So you may get a false reading if you take it too early. You can buy discounted pregnancy tests online at www.earlypregnancytests.com

Dollar store test work just as well as the expensive brands.
I have used both brands and prefer the dollar store ones over the high dollar ones any day. Anyway why spend $10 and up for something you plan to pee on and then throw away.

They all work the same. With my third child I got a pregnancy test from the dollar store and it came out positive but I wasn't sure due to the fact it was from the dollar store so I went to a pharmacy and bought one for 22 dollars and it stated the same. So I think as long as you do it correctly its okay.

They work just as well. A great website that explains pretty much everything about testing is
www.peeonastick.com

basicaly a pregnancy test is just trying to detect hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin)
Your body only makes this hormone when pregnant.

There are charts on the website that show the levels that different pregnancy tests pick up on.
