Howdy....Little Bear is 5 1/2 months and is "bearly" sitting up on his own. He is attempting to crawl, but is more interested in walking as he seems to hate being on the floor.

My pedi say the average age is 5-6 months for sitting and 10-14 months for walking.

For the 20 oz a day bottle feedings he is already using stage 2 nipples. We will be seeing the pedi for the 6 month visit today so I will ask what the averages are again.

I am informed that we will be introducing stage two foods in two more months or when he gets upper teeth.

Hope that helps!

Unassisted sitting generally is well developed about 6-9 months. Of course, some babies are able to sit supported with pillows or by using their hands in a "tripod" fashion much earlier than that. But, true unassisted sitting begins about 6 months. Crawling is an unusual milestone in that it isn't generally listed on most developmental charts. Not all babies crawl traditionally, but some form of locomotion, either rolling, scooting, or "commando-style" tummy crawling generally peaks about 7-10 months. Walking is generally a milestone listed as 12 months, but can begin as early as 9 months or develop as late as 18 months and still be considered perfectly normal. The packages of nipples will tell you what ages they are appropriate for. However, you may find a baby old enough for a stage 2 still prefers his stage 1. Same with stages of food. The basic difference in stage 1 and stage 2 food is the quantity in the container and the consistency. Again, your baby may show a preference for stage 1 or may go to stage 2 with no problems. When your baby is eating more, try stage 2.

Between four to six months on the sitting up unassisted. You can use a bumbo seat or blankets to prop a baby up to help them develop the muscles they need to do it alone. Crawl and walk is 7 to 16 months, some kids never crawl, just scoot and start walking, so crawling isn't so much a milestone as it used to be. We switched my daughter to stage 2 nipples around when she got her first teeth around 7 mo and was chewing the nipples so hard she tore them down the side, lol. Your baby will let you know when to switch to stage two foods when they consistantly finish their stage 1 and want more. It's pretty much the same consistancy, and the usual age is around 6-8 months. My daughter is on stage 2 now at 8 months and she still eats a lot of cereal, although I add the strawberry apple puffs to it for texture and taste, and we'll be switching to stage three foods once she runs out of her current stage 2 stock, lol :D Good luck!

My son's doctor said they usually sit unassisted around 7 months, although my son started around 5 months. He learned to crawl around 6-7 months. He's 8 months now and is getting ready to walk within the next month or so (I think), but I think the average is around a year.

About the nipples, not quite sure, but if you think your baby would like a faster flow on the bottle, give the stage 2 a try. If it's too fast and he/she's not able to keep up go back to stage 1. I don't know about the cereal/food. I think the stages are more of a marketing ploy by baby food companies. I'd ask your doctor. I think it's more just about what foods to avoid when and when you can start giving finger foods, etc. Good luck!

Average Age Babies Sit Up

2016-11-13 01:13:16 · answer #5 · answered by ? 4 · 0 0

sit up- about 4 to 5 months
crawl about 7 months
walk anywhere from 8 months to 14 months
but seriously....all babies develop at their own rate. We all compared ours to the other kids who did it sooner, but reality is...all healthy normal babies will master these life skills at their own pace. Just like potty training. I started my son at 2....which was way too early. He mastered it at 3. Even though half of the kids in his preschool class were going potty already. No big deal. Just remember to not get stressed or rush things! Good Luck!!
