NO! I made the mistake of going on the pill when I got married. (I had a history of irregular cycles...but just started to get a regular cycle before going on the pill.)
The pill will make you wonderfully regular...while you are taking them. But as soon as you go off you will go back to being irregular. I went off the pill last December...waited and waited....and didn't get my period. (and wasn't pregnant) Finally I went to the doctor in the end of Feburary and he prescribed Prometrium.
I took Prometrium for seven days and a few days after going off my period came. (It basically just sheds the lining) The following month I wasn't expecting anything to happen but by noting cervical mucas and I started charting BBT (basil body temperatures) I noticed that I actually ovulated! The next month I was pregnant!
So...I would HIGHLY recommend asking about Prometrium. (My doctor recommends this over the other progesterones...since this is a natural progesterone...just like your body produces!)
I wish I would have known what going on birth control would have done....I would have never gone on it. Here are a few websites that may help with BBT charting and noting cervical mucas as well.

I hope this helps! :o)

No. I had this problem for years. From the time I was 12 till I was 24.
I didn't ovulate. That's what birth control pills do. they keep you from ovulating. You can't get pregnant if you don't ovulate.
Talk to your doctor about being put on provera. You take it for 5 days, on your fifth day, you should have a cycle. This is an actual ovulating cycle. You CAN get pregnant. If that doesn't work either, talk to the doc about adding Chlomid to the provera.
This is a fertility drug.
I started this cocktail in September 2000, I was pregnant on Valentines day.
They told me I would NEVER have kids, b/c I didn't have a regular period, and didn't ovulate.
Good luck!

Hmm, I doubt it.
Periods aren't ovulation. And when you take birth control you are stopping ovulation, and having your period, so this isn't the right idea. You are also recommened to be off birth control for 3 months before trying (at least by my doctor) to allow your body time to get back into the hormonal swing and release the ovum.
So, if you are trying to get pregnant, you can even with irregular periods, just takes more time and some planning, birth control seems counter productive.

It worked for me. I found that I was only working correctly the first few months after taking the pill. The first time I tried I waited the 3 months after taking the pill to start trying. We had no luck for 6 months. I went back on the pill for 7 months to get things back on track only this time we started trying as soon as I stopped taking them. It was planned so I took my prenatals for the few months before trying. I got pregnant on my first cycle this time. I don't know for sure it was the pill but I think it was.
I do have ovulation pain every month so know exactly what my body is doing. The first time when we tried I only got ovulation pain the first few months then after that it stopped and my periods went irregular.

NO, your periods willl go right back to irregularity as soon as you stop taking the pill and obviously you probably won't get pregnant on birth control.
You don't have to have a period to ovualte. If I went by when my last period was when I got pregnant, my due date would have been 3 months off!!

It can regulate your period, but also keep you from getting pregnant.
The best thing to do would be to talk to your doctor about your desire to have children before getting the birth control pills.
Hope this helped ya some!

It did for me- I had a somewhat irregular period (cycle lasting anywhere from 21-45 days) and was on the pill for 2 years after that. I stopped the pill in June and ovulated my first cycle, aunt flo showed up in 29 days. Good luck to you- but I'd recommend just charting and avoiding the pill altogether. Look up information on how to track your cycles. Try www.fertilityfriend.com

I've heard this, but I never understood the logic of it. I would ask for something else to help you regulate your period without negatively effecting you chances of conception.

Many of them do help regulate a period, but if you take them you are unlikely to conceive a child.
