Bebe Sounds says on their website that you can't hear the heartbeat until your 3rd trimester (28 weeks). I am 30 weeks, and still can only hear the kicks & flips, but no heartbeat. I brought mine with me to my last OB appointment & even the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat using it, but found it on the first try with the doppler.

Unfortunately, these things are a gimmic that us expecting mommies buy into because we want to hear our babies so we can bond with them & make sure they are ok. If you still have the receipt, you may want to try to return it (tell them it doesn't meet your expectations).

If you want to actually hear your baby's heart at home, you can rent or purchase a fetal doppler like what they use at the OBs office. Purchase is about $500-600, but rental is only about $20-50 a month.

I purchased one of those during my first pregnancy, and after having trouble hearing a heartbeat took it to my obstetrician. She HATES the things, she says it causes more worry than anything. The small print says you can begin to hear the heartbeat in the third trimester. Mid second trimester would be around 20 weeks, which would be possible if you are slim, the baby is in the ideal position, etc.

As my doctor said, there is no way they can put the technology that is available in a 600+ dollar unit (such as those the doctors use) into this 20 dollar device. Please do not stress if you can not locate the baby's heartbeat.

I am now expecting my third, and I have yet to hear a heartbeat with ANY of my pregnancies using this device-and I am currently 34+ weeks pregnant.

I hope this helps! Soon you will be able to feel the baby, and that is much more reassuring anyway!

Honestly, good luck hearing the heartbeat at all. I bought one with my first pregnancy and it was SUCH a waste of money. I can't even give the thing away now. I didn't hear the heartbeat until I was into the latter part of my third trimester. Some people have said they had luck with it, but it just never worked for me. I could hear gurgles and a "thump" when he kicked at it, but that was it really.

Mine didn't work until 30 or 31 weeks. The paperwork that came with it said something about not working until I think six months. From what I hear, most people have very little luck with those to begin with.

the problem with heart listener used at home is that you dont know where to put pressure into the stomach to listen to the heartbeat, when my doctor did mine, he had to press kinda hard in my lower abdomen, something that i wouldnt have done afraid of hurting the baby. best thing is to wait until you can feel the baby so that you know where to search for a heartbeat.

From experience, you will drive yourself nuts trying to hear the heartbeat. You can hear it only if the baby is in the perfect position, and then if you DON'T hear it you can just flip. My Dr. told me to throw mine away, because I was in her office in tears, couldn't find the beat.

Save yourself the trouble, they are cheaply made and can mess with your mind!

Well, you are about there. If you can't hear it, go to the doctor and have them check it with doppler- I heard my daughter's heart at my 16 week check up.

i used one of those with my first pregnancy. and it was terribly frustrating. even at 41 weeks, i had lots of trouble finding my baby's heartbeat. if you can't hear your baby with it, don't freak out. your baby's probably fine, and it's just the "heart listener" not working well.

I was about 26 weeks when it started working. For my best friend, it didn't work until 32 weeks.

I tried this with my first pregnancy and it drove me (& my husband) nuts! Sometimes it would find the heart beat and sometimes it would not. My advice would be to put it away and wait for your regular check ups!
