The way I see it, statements don't create anything but responses, not idiots, (although idiots often respond).
I think that answers it?

The answer goes both ways. Think about it. Idiots do say the stupid statements, and possibly it's was there own original stupid statement. But, if the stupid statement came from somewhere else, the person may not be an idiot, but just a reiterator of the stupid statement.

Everyone has uttered a few simple stupid statements in their life...that does not make them an idiot, so it doesn't take an idiot to create a stupid statement.

So we are left with "Do stupid statements create an idiot?" Well, generally yes. Multiple stupid statements /statistically significant fraction of stupid statements could very well define an idiot.

However, let's not underestimate "actions". There are plenty of idiots out there who may not utter stupid statements, but prove their stupidity through action. Just drive your car for 10 minutes to see that argument play out.

LOL. Since we are judged by our interactions with others, it must be true that stupid statements create the idiot. After all, I wouldn't (usually) call someone an idiot *before* he'd said something stupid.

But I have to say, this subject has always confused me. People are always saying "There are no stupid questions?"

And I've always thought, "But what do the stupid people ask?"
;-)

Then again, perhaps any attempt to better yourself (i.e asking a question) is a "smart move"?

Hi! I'm assuming you mean 'idiot' ... as in 'jerk' and 'stupid' as 'unacceptable.' I don't think folks 'create' stupid statements (unless for fun, to get a reaction.. or attention!) intentionally.. it's rather a default (regressive) mode... I don't think it's a choice. And no one is perfect but I know many people, despite their 'intelligence,' that say stupid and inappropriate things on occasion. People say stupid things (and I'm sure we've all been there at least once!) for a number of reasons: for attention, out of anger, frustration (do you have kids? Ha!), rudeness, immaturity, lack of boundaries, fear, insecurity, lack of awareness, lack of social skills, an emotional response rather than an intellectual one, etc. It goes to one's emotional maturity and values rather than innate intelligence and yes.... a continual flow of 'stupid' statements will ultimately render an otherwise 'intelligent' person as someone who's unreliable in their remarks... as an idiot. Great question!

oooohhh - I love the question!

Both I tihnk - some ppl are naturally dumb so they act dumb without a care in the world, not knowing they sound like fools

Others are embarresed by stupid statements after the fact but by then, its too late to take it back. People may see this person as an idiot but if he/she reconizes he/she made a mistake, they aren't an idiot.
If they don't realize, they're just ignorant.

The former.
I have made stupid statements in the past. That doesn't make me an idiot. (except for at that moment)

They both interconnected from each other. It is a daft to make a stupid statement and thus you call him idiot.
