What do you mean by "independently owned" ???

If they are licensed to do business in your city, go to your city government and ask for a list of businesses licensed to do business in your city. They have the records, and they are public.

Not all businesses are corporations or partnerships, some are self-employment, like Joe's plumbing. Some require licenses to perform work (licensed contractors for example) some are not (like pool maintenance or lawn mowing). Some don't get a city license, until they are identified, or a complaint is lodged.

You may even find your local city government online.

You probably can't. What are you REALLY trying to do with the info?
