While ordering appetizers i briefly glanced at the amazing cleavage our waitress proudly displayed with her V cut shirt. She couldn't tell me fast enough " excuse me, but my eyes are up here". So later when the appetizer arrived and we were ordering entree's she was staring at my thinning hair instead of my eyes while I was talking to her. I said "excuse me, but my eyes are down here". She huffed at me and stormed away without taking our order. The manager came to the table and 'politely' informed me that I was not to harrass his waitresses. Well, we stayed at that table for what seems like forever, ordering more drinks, bread, this that, more napkins, more silverware, and anything else we could think of. For her tip I wrote on a napkin "No tip for you B**CH".

Would YOU have tipped her?

By the way, I wasn't STARING. It was a quick movement from her eyes to the cleavage then bacy to her eyes. Not on purpose either, her boobs were popping out a foot from my face.

As a professional server for 25 years I can tell you that when leave nothing due to poor service the reason is not taken seriously by the server or management for that matter. You are instantly la bled as "cheap". The most effective way to get a server to "think" about how they screwed up is to leave 8% (the amount the goverment taxes the server from your checks sub-total) With the 8% tip leave a note as to what it would have been had the service been good.Example- your check is $100 say in your note that had your service not been so awful then the tip could have been $18. Bad=10% Ok=15% Good=18% Excellent= 20% The goal for most servers is to stay within the 18-20 percent range. The point is a 10 % tip is much more insulting then nothing. If you write the note directly on a reciept that was signed by you(i.e. credit card slip) then the server must turn it in with thier paperwork and management will see it. Otherwise the server will just print a new one.

While it's nice for redemption from your end, obviously it was a misunderstanding between you two. She's a waitress with low cut v shirt, and to her dismay, her twins are out about to get lose. It's a male thing, yes. She took it the wrong way. Being clever as you are, you retorted with your wit. Unfortunately the witty response didn't made her realize you were joking. If you were to go back in time, you could've left a smaller tip. Who knows, when you get back there, you might end up having bad service, again. To prevent this, either go back and eat there, give a tip or better yet don't show up there. It's amazing how waitresses/bartender have great memorization skills and the ability to spread the word. Always tip, either small or large. Waitresses/Waiters don't get paid much. 50-80% of their income comes from tips, considering that one must minus the barback/busboy/hostess fees, yes, it's small. Inevitably, service from restaurants come from 50% from the waitresses too. 1/2 of the service comes from cooks, while the experience from the waitress/waiters.

I think you should have just given her a smal tip, maybe 5%. Even if she was rude, and stormed off like that, she still was doing her job, no matter how good or bad or a waitress she was. You also shouldn't have left her a napkin with that written on it. That truly was rude. But also, she shouldn't have been wearing that kind of shirt, especialy as a waitress. If she decided to wear that shirt, she must have wanted attention. There were many things that went wrong in this situation, and neither you nor her was right.

yes, what you did was wrong and uncalled for. Being a waitress is hard work and you don't get paid very much. And if the waitress' manager has to come over and ask you to stop harassing staff you owe them an apology and a tip. maybe her low cut v neck top was the restaurants dress code/ uniform.

She still served you, despite your asking for more napkins, more silverware, more this and more of everything you asked for, despite feeling harassed and despite her personal feelings. It seems like professional conduct to me.

Personally, I think she deserved at least a small tip for providing you with the service you required of her. Whether or not you wanted to really is a separate issue, and whatever, dude, but the note was totally unwarranted, and that was exceptional "jerk" behaviour, not to mention childish.

Do you go out looking for a fight every day?

You must be a miserable cur to treat people in this fashion.

Amazing cleavage is not to be acknowledged, no matter what. Don't you know how to accept a gift (the display) without overdoing it (briefly glanced)?

Stop picking on those less well off than you. If I were that manager, I would give a 'do not seat' order to the entire staff so that you wouldn't be allowed into the restaurant again.

I think you were being too self conscious about her looking at your thinning hair and made a big deal out of nothing. But, Im surprised she still waited on you guys after the manager thing... If she retrieved everything you asked for in a timely manner and still managed to smile, then yes, she deserved a tip. I usually calculate waitresses tips by a few things: one, if they smil or not, two, if they remember and bring what i asked for in a timely manner, and three, nice personality. So, you be the judge really.

You messed up. I would have apologized immediately for the cleavage look, EVEN IF she was dressed provacatively. I would also have not made the comment about her staring at your hair. It sounded petty, and caused you to have poor service. The manager, however, was wrong in saying you were "harassing" his waitress.

As for tipping, I would not have tipped, or tipped less, because of the poor service. At the same time, you brought it upon yourself. I would NOT, under any circumstance, have written that note. I hope you don't go back to that restaurant, because they'll remember you.

Here's a cleavage story. My boss's father died so he invited all of the employees to a get together after his father's wake. One of the employees was a buxon brunette who was wearing a low cut top. We were sitting at the table, including the boss's relatives. The buxon employee stood up to reach for appertizers and leaned over to show a 90-year-old man her cleavage. The ambulance arrived shortly after.
