Not only does it have the second highest GDP per capita (PPP), being surpassed only by Lichtenstein whose figures are skewed by its tiny population, but it has ranked first in the Human Development Index for 5 consecutive years. The HDI is a broader measure of the standard of living than per capita GDP on its own. Its made the most of the high energy prices but has had the foresight to save some of the proceeds for the future. The Norwegian Government Pension Fund is the one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world.
