because you are an epileptic ....
and on seizure medication, you need to consult your doctor regarding your medical condition and your desire to have a baby ....

your doctor may refer you to a specialist ... someone who specializes in high risk OB .... and that doctor will discuss your options with you and also consult with your doctor about the medications you are taking and how this may affect the baby ...

so please check with your doctor first ...
the importance here is to have a safe and healthy outcome for both you and the baby ...

i am also an epileptic but i was taking neurontin 400mg 5 times a day but i cut myself back to 2 then when i got pregnant istopped taking it altogether. i am now 10 weeks pregnant with my 4th baby and so far all is well. You might want to consult your neurologist cause some medications can prevent pregnancy and kind of act like a birth control pill.

Honestly I dont know because Im epileptic and I was taking medication since before I got married and my wife and I have 6 healthy boys. It didnt affect me being a father, but in your case your the wife so I dont know if that will affect your child if you get pregnant because you will be carrying it. I think you should ask the doctor because he/she is really the only one who can help you and really answer your question.

Even when trying to conceive your doctor will want to switch you to an anti-seizure medication that is safe to take during pregnancy, like Lamictal (lamotrigine). Side effects of seizure medications could be infertility. The best thing to do is make an appointment with your Neurologist to discuss your situation. It is never okay, though, to just stop your medication or decrease it yourself, there could be serious risks to you and the baby when a trained professional is not the one adjusting your dose. Good luck to you.

Honestly, I don't think any of us on here can answer that question for you the way your doctor could.

I suggest you write down all of your questions and concerns about having a baby and then share them with your doctor at your next appointment. I'm sure they will find a way to keep you on necessary medication and still make it possible for you to conceive.

Hope this helped ya some!

The only think I know for sure is that seizure medication can cause birth defects in the growing baby. I have worked with 2 children with birth defects that were born to mom's with a seizure disorder who were on medication for it and the doctor's said the birth defect was from the meds. That is something you may want to talk to your doctor about.

*I looked up both your meds in my book on medications, and both have been linked to birth defects.

talk to a dr about the effect of your medicine as far as concieving and pregnancy go before you try to concieve. it is possible to be a mother, even though you have epilepsy.

have you been trying to conceive all this time? i'm not sure what the impact of the medicine could be, it might be known for all we know, ask your obgyn they'll know best, also ask an RE (fertility specialist) they have more experience on these type of cases, you can ask an RE online for free, try www.FertilityTies.com
