I wish women would learn it is called child support! Meaning it is for the children and as such you do not have the right to lower it or refuse it because it is not for YOU! The court has a forumla for a reason-and if according to their calculations that is what they deem is his ability to pay then you should not go against that. If he lives beyond his means and cannot afford that amount coming out of his chech then he should get a part time job. Of course he was your friend before-he wanted something from you-and you were gullible enough to fall for it. You should have known he was spending money on his girlfriend-what woman wants a man he doesn't take her out and buy her nice things. Good for the girlfriend that she had sense enough to leave! As far as your current order goes if you were in NC there would be nothing they would do for you if you willingly and knowingly took less then what your children were entitled to. In this state you are allowed a review every three years and if there is a significant change in circumstances-such as increased medical expenses, etc. So until your three years are up you are stuck.

If the support was set at $500.00 a month and he has not been paying the full amount, you need to contact the child support office and request enforcement.
If the support was supposed to be set at $500.00, but you allowed it to be set at $250.00, you will have to go back through the child support office and request that the support order be changed to a higher amount.
In the future, remember that the support is for the kids. So, don't let him talk you into accepting less than the kids deserve. If he has a problem with having less money to spend on his social life, tell him to get a second job or do without!

Do not fall for the "I have no money" whining. Having 2 children and paying $500 a month is cheap. He should keep his mouth shut before it goes up. I've been there and know!!!
