No. Why should Americans have to learn Spanish? The people that come into our country should have to learn our language.

Yes, ONLY if the requirements of the open position is the knowledge of the Spanish language, and if all other requirements are met, the employer may give the applicant time to learn the language, but in most cases some other applicant will have all the requirements needed. Other than not meeting specific requirements, then no, they cannot be discriminated against because of not knowing the Spanish language, or any other language for that matter.

You know, I have had the same problem. I live in Chicago, where 20% of the population is Latino. I am also a Latino, but I do not speak Spanish. I have been denied jobs several times because I do not speak Spanish. In a way, I believe its unfair, but according to the law, if a job can prove its a BFOQ, they can require their employees to speak Spanish. The only way to protest is not to do business with companies that require Spanish speaking to be employed by that company.

If the job required to know spanish then yes, you can't hire someone who can't speak spanish. For instance Security Guards at The Home Depot need to know enough to tell the people who wait around the parking lot in the morning to "Vamanos". If spanish is not required in a job, of course it should be taken into account, but I think it would be bad business to base your entire decision on it.

some jobs require you to speak spanish, so if you can't then you shouldnt be upset. though i feel like one day alot more of the jobs will require you to speak spanish.i fell as though the school system should make kids speak spanish all though school, the reason why i say that is because most countries countries they have to take english in school. so while we sit and think it is ok for us not to know spanish, the people that are from different countries might get jobs before we do. i think the US is behind and need to catch up with other countries

Sure, it depends on the job. Under the circumstances that the hiring party wants someone who speaks Spanish, the person shouldn't be hired if they cannot. Jobs have different requirements for them, depending on what the positions are...

Our country is a melting pot of all nationalities and people of different dialects, therefore a company needs people who can communicate with there customers and clients. If they have no one who speaks spanish and they have spanish customers then they can require that the person they are looking for speak spanish.

Yes, if the job listing specifically states one must be able to speak Spanish. If the job listing doesn't state so than it is not right.

well if the job requires spanish, then the person who doesnt know spanish should not be hired, if spanish isnt needed for the job, then the person should be hired (if the person fits the other job requirements)

If the position requires a fluent or native speaker in Spanish then any person not speaking the language is clearly not competent for the job, and as such, should not be hired.
