This is sort of a hot topic. A lot of experts suggest that food before the age of at least 6 months may make the baby more prone to food allergies. However, I admit that at 3 months, I did give both of my babies cereal before they went to bed, and yes, they were more satisfied and slept better. I used a baby feeder, which is like a bottle, but allows a thicker flow which is needed for the cereal. I would research this to make the best choice for your child.

Could be a growth spurt. You could try the rice cereal mixed with formula. The first few times it needs to be very thin consistency. Try giving it with a baby spoon first. She probably won't like it and it will be messy and definitely won't like the spoon but be patient and she will learn.
I know some people put a small amount of cereal in the bottle with the formula but I never had much luck with that. Either the hole in the nipple was too small and it wouldn't come out or too big and baby would get too much.
Good luck!

My pediatrician told me no cereal before 4 months because of the risk of allergy development. Maybe if you keep her up a little later at night you'll cut out one of those nighttime interruptions, or make her sleep later in the morning. 12 hours is a long time for anyone, even a baby to sleep.

call your pediatrician and see what they think. i feel that she is too young for the cereal but i know of many moms who do it. but no never in a bowl at this age. it gets watered down in their formula and goes into thier bottle. it really sounds to me like her schedule is a bit off. like maybe she is sleeping too much in the day time or she is getting a nap too close to bedtime. my daughter is also three and a half months old (well closer to four) and her schedule is this. she wakes up between 7-9 am. stays awake for about 1-2 hrs goes back to sleep until around noon. stays awake for another 1-2 hrs and will sleep until around 5-7pm. she then wakes up and with the exception of a cat nap (about 15 min) she will stay awake until 11pm- midnight. she gets a bottle of formula before bed (she is breastfed). and she sleeps through until 7-9 the next morning. normally i would worry about how much she slept through the day but she stays awake and plays and coo's for hours in the evening. it seems to wear her out enough. also if you don't already you can try giving her a warm bath right before bed. it is soothing to them and helps them sleep. but call your pediatrician before changing her diet to see what they recommend. i would hate to see you introduce something her body is not yet ready for. see if there is an easier way to go about this first. good luck!

It's too early to put her on solids or cereal ...
cereals/solids should not be started until about 6 months of age OR at the advice of the pediatrician ...
at 3 months they don't have the chewing/swallowing mechanism down pat and could end up choking on the food.
they only know how to swallow liquids at this time.
And no ... when it;s time to give her solids, you don't give it to her in a bowl .. you will have to spoon feed her ...
but this is a learning process for her, until she figures out her tongue coordination and she will probably spit it out initially.
Also, if you introduce solid foods too early, she may end up developing allergies ...
a 3 month old is bound to wake up at least once or twice at night .... expect her to sleep no longer than 6 hours at a time ...
this is still considered "sleeping thru the night"
heck, if I went to bed at 7:30pm ... I myself would probably wake up in the middle of the night too!!!
So this is normal ...
If you are concerned about your baby's health ...
or the progress she is making ... please first ASK YOUR PEDIATRICIAN!!

It is not recommended to start your child on solids until 4-6 months of age. However, most pediatricians will try and get you to hold off until 6 months because the risk of allergies goes up the earlier you start your child on solids. Please visit your pediatrician and ask him or her these questions about feeding and sleeping. Serious concerns like this should not be a matter for discussion on Y!A because on here you are likely to hear people's opinions and beliefs rather than medical facts.
Good luck!
