of course ur education is very important, but im not going to name that as what u need most.
the most important thing to have and keep with u in high school is confidence. confidence in urself at ALL things - from being able to pass the next test, do an exam paper, to staying confident through all the trials ull be faced with during ur high school years. dont ever let anyone make u feel ur not as good as u know u are and can be.
this will help ur academic future as well as give u great practice for the real world.

you DO NOT need friends the most so you shouldn't take honor classes for them because the same 'friends' taking honor classes will be a completely different person when thrusted into highschool. Many people have survived without the need of anything but a head on their shoulders. And if those are your true friends you shouldn't have to be in the same class as them to keep in touch. However, many people fear being left behind, that is why you make new friends and don't enter high chool thinking everything will stay the same because it won't and you won't

There isn't really anything that you need.... just be yourself. I wouldn't take honors classes if you don't think you can do well, or if you don't think you can get a B+ or higher. If you get a B or lower in an honors class, you would be better of taking regular classes.
Also, you shouldn't take honors classes just to be with your friends. Just make new friends.
On a side note, there's not always a guarentee that you'll be with your friends even if you both take an honors class. But, my school will let you take an honors class for the first quarter, and if you struggle they send you down to regular classes, but the low grade from honors doesn't count towards your GPA.

I wouldn't take the honors classes just to be with friends. If you think you could succeed in them, go ahead. But, doing poorly would make the classes a more stressful thing than you need.
You'll have your friends during breaks, at lunch and after school. You probably wouldn't see too much of them in class anyway.
What I think you need to succeed in high school is a good set of priorities, a solid work ethic, knowing when to have fun, and a sense of humor.

The only thing anyone needs in order to get through HS is to realize that HS isn't the real world and all of that drama and stuff that everyone gets so emotional about will be a distant memory within a few years of graduating. College and the real world are far more forgiving and friendly places than any HS. It's 4 years of your life you just have to suck up and get through to get to the good stuff - where freinds are really friends and no one cares if you do something differently than everyone else.
