saint John's Wort is used exclusively in Germany for depression. The Germans Physicians feel that it works as good as any medical antidepressant.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.
Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.
Depression Free Method?

For all patient and client issues involving any chemical or hormone imbalance I have been using a product that contains among other things, Mexican Wild Yam. While this does not mask symptoms the way drugs do nor as quickly, everyone of my patients and clients has been able to go back to their doctor or take themselves off their medication within 3 months.
The worse patient so far was taking Prozac and sleeping pills for 8 years. After 6 months she is drug free and has her life back. Whenever I make a nutritional recommendation of any kind it also includes a product to provide our cells with what is required for proper structure and configuration.
St. Johns Wart should not be taken long term and loses its effectiveness overtime as our body is not deficient in this nor is it deficient in Wellbutrin or ANY other drug. This is true of any herb. A natural drug is still a drug. Mexican Wild Yam is a plant that is part of diets found in southern North America as well as in Central America.
Supplements of any kind are not meant to cure, treat, or mitigate any disease or condition. Supplements are intended only to provide the body with missing nutrients.
Prescription drugs should only be taken when PROPERLY prescribed and should be under the careful watch of your medical doctor.

I've heard also that St. John's wort is an effective way to help deal with depression.
Remember that herbal supplements are medication, though, and I'd be leery about taking any of them if you are already taking something for your depression, like Paxil, for example.

I was going to say st johns wort aswell but if youre thinking of taking something such as a herbal supplement to help with depression i would also recommend you look into your diet.if your diet isnt good this can affect your mental state of mind aswell.for instance if you eat a lot of takeaway/fatty food you will end up feeling sluggish.if you eat vegtables and drink water regular you will feel fresher.sounds simple but your diet can make a big difference.best of luck

75% of your Seritonin is made in your colon. If your colon is toxic then you should do a cleanse. By toxic I mean constipated or IBS going on. Use a non synthetic colon cleanse. Then you need to see if you are having food allergies. Let say you might be allergic to wheat or gluten... celiac. Then if you find out all those things are fine and your still depressed go to a natural doc to see if there is something... you could just have adrenal fatigue and that could be making you depressed feeling.
Find the cause dont just treat the symptom.

This probably doesn't answer your question, but you might be interested to know anyway.
Chocolate contains natural anti-depressives. So does corn. Obviously the content is much lower than specific herbal supplements, but they're easy to find and very affordable. Taste good too.

St John's Wort is supposed to be great for depression. One thing you may try is doing things that make you feel better about yourself. Help someone else---that will get your mind off your own state.
Also, if you haven't already thought of this, you might consider going to church. You can also join a church and serve people there. I suggest a non-denominational church that is spirit filled and bible based.
I sincerely hope you feel better. I'm sure you are wonderful! :)

St Johns could assist , but be careful with drug herb and herb herb interaction. There is loads of information into the interaction with st,johns - there is an enzyme in the liver (CYP450) which plays an important factor in the metabolism of drugs - ie the drugs will work differently if consumed with st johns
